Torch Lake is best experienced by boat, so if you don’t have one, you should consider renting one. You can rent any kind of boat you prefer, from pontoons to powerboats and everything in between. You can have your boat delivered to your vacation rental or you can pick it up at the local marina, either way, it’s super convenient. Remember to rent in advance because boats are in high demand!

Torch Lake is the longest inland lake in Michigan and it’s also very wide. It’s 19 miles long and 2 miles wide, so you’ll have a lot to explore when you go out on your boat. It definitely takes time to traverse the lake, but it will be worth your time.

Once you’re done exploring, you can drop your anchor at the south side sandbar and enjoy the many opportunities for fun. You will even find a floating Burger Barge so you can get yourself a burger and other snacks.

If you want an even bigger adventure, you can boat through the Chain of Lakes. Lake Torch is connected to many other lakes and rivers, so you can expand your boating experience by going through the Chain of Lakes Water Trail. This trail consists of interconnected lakes and rivers that flow into Lake Michigan.

You can also get to Torch Lake by renting a boat in Bellaire and use it to float down the Clam River. This trip is very popular and it allows you to reach Torch Lake in a bit over an hour. Wherever you decide to part, make sure you have enough gas for the trip because the lake is huge and there aren’t many locations where you can refuel along the way.
