Geography and Fishing on the Lake
Lake Kallavesi, together with its neighboring lakes Muuruvesi, Melavesi, Juurusvesi-Akonvesi, Suvasvesi and Riistavesi forms an 890 km2 lake system, known as Iso-Kalla. The lake itself is located around the city of Kuopio, the 8th largest in the country, and is split in two by the Kallansilet Bridge. It mostly has rocky and rugged shores, but in some places one can even discover sandy beaches and swampy bays.
The lake is very popular amongst fishermen. Great zander and pike can be found on the Northern part of the lake, whilst brown trout can be caught in the mid-lake area. Good pike can also be found in the southern waters of Lake Kallavesi, especially around the Vatanen shallows and Kaarlo Island.
