Mucky and all sorts of weird bugs. I have no idea why we were there camping but we were obviously on our way somewhere east. Ill cut it some slack about the muckiness though- Im guessing the water level was low so we were far from the waters edge. It wasnt muddy from what I recall but it was spongy. If it had been muddy Im sure our dog or dogs would have had a GREAT time mucking in the, well, muck, especially mud. Alaskan Malamutes seem to be especially fond of that. Since this is John Martin's Reservoir your best bet is to be there when we've had plenty of water- (good luck with that. We're supposed to have highly visible snowfields on the Front Range. How depressing to see them gone summers.) and they're not irrigating heavily and inefficiently. If the reservoir is full hopefully you'll have reasonable access to the water from the campgrounds and the bugs will be where? underwater? Don't expect much out of the campgrounds other than a place to park your camper. (No- I wouldn't put a tent on that muck.)
